Sorekayi Palya

Sorekayi is called as bottle gourd in english, sorakaya in telugu.I like this vegetable very much. In our place, in karnataka mom used to prepare the famous Bassaru from this vegetable.Who the mannina makalu of karnataka can forget ragiball and bassaru? Ofcourse i will add bassaru recipe the favorite dish of karnataka little later, now here is the recipe of side dish prepared from sorekayi(bottlegourd)it is very easy to prepare and tastes too good with rice, chapati n poori.I learnt this from my sister- in-law, who is good in tamilnadu style cooking.

All you need is

Small size of sorekayi(bottle gourd)outer skin peeled and cutted into small pieces
Mustard half tsp
Jeera half tsp
Split Urad and Channa Dhal 1 tsp
Dry red chillies 2
curry leaves 1 stem
onion 1(thinly sliced)
Sambar Powder 1 tsp
Turmeric a pinch
Salt for taste
oil
Cilantro/grated coconut for garnishing

How to do

Take a pan and add 4-5 tsp of oil and heat it, when the oil is hot, add mustard, when it pops, add jeera, urad n channa dhal, fry it then add dry chillies, curry leaves,onion and fry till the onion turns golden brown color.Then add pieces of sorekayi(bottle gourd)put salt, don't close the lid of pan, just keep on fry it on medium flame, no need of adding water also,when the vegetable is done, add turmeric n sambar powder, mix well for few min and remove from flame n garnish wid cilantro or grated coconut.
